Buying a used Dodge Charger LD (2011–2023) in the UAE
Quick answer
The Dodge Charger LD is the 2011–2023 Charger, built in Brampton, Canada, with a 3.6-litre V6 or a 5.7-, 6.4- or supercharged 6.2-litre V8, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Trading Enterprises sold it new in the UAE, but a used one may be a US import, even a former police car. Mopar Middle East’s current warranty terms cover only a car built and registered for the Middle East, and no car an insurer declared a total loss. Check recalls by VIN with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a US car, or with Trading Enterprises for a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market car, above all the 2011–2014 alternators and the 2018–2021 curtain airbags. Buy the Charger whose papers, VIN decode and recall record tell the same story.

The Dodge Charger LD in the UAE
Chrysler introduced the all-new 2011 Dodge Charger on 14 November 2010 as the seventh-generation Charger, built at its Brampton plant in Canada; its service bulletins call the car “(LD) Charger”. Dodge said on 26 September 2022 that the Charger in its current form would end at the end of 2023.
Trading Enterprises, part of the Al-Futtaim group, describes itself on Dodge’s UAE website as the official dealer of Dodge vehicles in the UAE, and that site listed the 2021 Charger from the V6, with or without all-wheel drive, to the supercharged Hellcat.
What to check first on a used Charger LD
- Which market the car was built for: ask Trading Enterprises with the VIN.
- Whether it was a police car: the free VIN decoder of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows the trim.
- US title brands and auction listings, if it came from the US.
- Recalls by VIN, especially the alternator (2011–2014), side airbags (2011–2014) and side curtain airbags (2018–2021).
- A steady battery reading and no warning lights after a long drive, on any 2011–2014 car.
- Door trim panels that sit flat and a touchscreen without bubbles, on 2016–2021 cars.
Gulf car or US import: settle it before anything else
The warranty terms Mopar Middle East publishes say the Basic Limited Warranty covers a car only if it was built for sale in the Middle East, is registered there and is driven mainly there, and that there is no cover if it is sold or registered outside the region, which includes the UAE. The same terms give no warranty of any kind to a car an insurer declared a total loss, a car rebuilt afterwards, or one titled “salvage”, “junk”, “rebuilt” or “scrap”. The basic cover in those terms lasts 36 months or 60,000 km, and the terms are undated and issued by Stellantis, so an older LD may have been sold under different ones.
The VIN alone will not tell you: every LD VIN in NHTSA’s complaint records begins with 2, a North American manufacturer code, and NHTSA says such a code need not show where a car was built and says nothing about where it was first sold. No official source we found lists how Gulf-market Chargers differ from US ones. Ask Trading Enterprises whether the VIN belongs to a car built for the Middle East, and compare the answer with the import papers.
NHTSA’s VIN recall search covers US-market cars and Dodge’s UAE website has its own VIN recall check; on a US import, run both. The Peninsula reported in February 2025 that Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry recalled 2019–2021 Chargers over a possible airbag inflator rupture, described in the same words as 24V-198; we found no UAE ministry notice naming the LD.
Gulf spec vs US spec: what actually differs
Former police Chargers
Dodge also built the LD as a police car, filed by NHTSA as “CHARGER POLICE” and “CHARGER PURSUIT”. Of the complaints counted below, 120 carry a partial VIN that NHTSA’s decoder reads as trim “Police”, so decode the full VIN first. Five recalls cover police cars only: 12V-042 for 2011–2012 headlamp wiring and fuse-box overheating, 16V-739 for the 220-amp alternator of 2011–2014 police cars, 18V-281 for the front driveshaft joint of 2015–2018 all-wheel-drive V8 pursuit cars, 20V-512 for the reversing camera with “stealth mode” on 2018–2020 pursuit cars, and 22V-866 for the column gear selector of 2022 pursuit cars. Ask for fleet service records and proof of those repairs.
Signs of a written-off Charger
On a US import, start with title brands in a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) report, sold by the approved providers listed on vehiclehistory.gov for up to about $4, the US Department of Justice says (a search can miss records), and auction photos showing where the car was hit. Dodge’s 2023 manual says the airbag warning light comes on for about four to eight seconds as a self-check and then goes out; if it stays on or comes back, the system has found a fault. It also says a deployed airbag or seat belt pretensioner must be replaced immediately. On a US-market car, a missing Vehicle Certification Label, or a VIN that differs from the registration card, needs an explanation.
NHTSA lists mud, waterlines and unusual rust as flood signs; have the carpets lifted before paying.
Flood-damaged cars in the UAE: how to spot one
Common Dodge Charger LD problems by system
These figures come from NHTSA, retrieved on 14 October 2026. Counting each complaint once across the four model names NHTSA uses for 2011–2023 Chargers gives 2,895. By the partial VIN owners give, 20 that NHTSA’s decoder reads as another car, such as a Challenger or a 2006–2010 Charger, are left out, leaving 2,875, 212 of them without a VIN. A complaint is a US owner’s report, not a confirmed defect.
Alternators and electrics (2011–2014)
NHTSA’s electrical category holds 1,030 complaints for 2011–2014 cars, and about 510 of them mention the alternator; many describe a battery light, a “battery saver mode” message and a stall. Recall 14V-634 replaces the 160-amp alternator of 3.6-litre cars, 17V-435 checks and replaces alternators on V6 and 5.7-litre cars with electro-hydraulic power steering, and 17V-741 adds more 2014 V6 cars. About 50 steering complaints also mention the alternator or battery (owner reports).
Recall 14V-101 covers 2011–2012 cars with halogen headlamps whose sub-harness may overheat and switch off the dipped beam; 163 complaints for 2011 cars mention the headlamps.
The 3.6-litre V6 cylinder head (2011–2013)
Chrysler’s bulletin 09-002-14, first issued on 10 June 2014, covers 2011–2013 Chargers with the 3.6-litre V6 that set misfire codes (multiple cylinders, or cylinder 2, 4 or 6): if a leak-down test shows 25% or more, the left cylinder head is replaced. The bulletin says these cars have extended warranty cover for the repair and points to separate US, Canadian and International warranty bulletins for the terms. Ask whether the head has been replaced, and have stored misfire codes read.
Gearboxes, gear selector and all-wheel drive
Recall 16V-240 updates the software of 2012–2014 V6 eight-speed cars with the spring-back gear selector, which may not warn a driver who opens the door when the car is not in Park. Recall 13V-610 inspects the output shaft of 2013 all-wheel-drive automatics and 17V-097 replaces the front driveshaft bolts of 2014–2017 all-wheel-drive cars. Check that the car holds in Park on a slope.
Airbags
Recall 15V-467 recalibrates the side impact sensors of 2011–2014 Chargers, whose side airbags and pretensioners could fire unexpectedly. Passenger inflator recalls 16V-352 and 18V-021 cover 2011–2013 cars by US state of sale or registration, and NHTSA also lists 19V-018 for 2011–2015 cars. NHTSA’s record for each advises owners not to drive until the inflator is replaced.
Recall 24V-198 covers 217,802 Chargers of the 2018–2021 model years built between 5 July 2018 and 20 May 2021: Chrysler’s report says moisture may have entered the curtain-airbag inflators during supplier manufacture, causing corrosion and possible rupture, and dealers replace both curtain airbags. NHTSA’s record says owner letters were mailed from 20 February 2025; 68 complaints for 2019–2021 cars mention this recall or the curtain airbags, many about waiting for parts (owner reports).
Heat, door panels and the touchscreen
About 100 owner reports, 81 of them for 2016–2018 cars, describe door trim panels separating from the doors. We found no recall or Dodge bulletin on it. About 45 complaints for 2017–2018 cars describe a bubbling or peeling touchscreen, some saying it presses itself. A May 2021 dealer note filed with NHTSA, for 2017–2021 Chargers, says only bubbling of the screen itself, not of a screen protector, justifies replacing the radio.
For the Gulf heat, Dodge’s 2023 manual says extremely hot weather affects when the oil change reminder appears and that the interval must never exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km) or 12 months.
Dodge Charger LD problems by model year
How the severity is set: each recall is matched to the complaint category NHTSA files its component under. High means an NHTSA recall in that category lists the model year, and the cell gives that category’s complaint count. Medium means no recall in the category, but a named category (not “unknown or other”) holds 20 or more complaints for the year. NHTSA keeps “service brakes” and “service brakes, air” apart, and the table follows it. Police-only recalls, a fire-extinguisher recall and a Mopar performance engine-computer kit recall are left out of the table.

How to check a Dodge Charger LD’s accident history
For the car’s years in the UAE, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) and Abu Dhabi Police both list a public accident inquiry by chassis number among their e-services. VINCheckr searches the UAE accident records available to it, from MOI and, during periods when MOI cannot be reached, Abu Dhabi Police; a clean result means no accident was found in those records, not that the car was never damaged.
For damage in the US before export, VINCheckr searches bid.cars, plc.auction and carsbidshistory.com and links to any listing it finds, with photos where the listing has them. A listing shows the Charger was offered at a US auction at least once; its title and damage fields show whether it was sold as salvage.
How to check the mileage
No public UAE source we found gives one odometer history, so collect dated readings: service invoices, fleet records for a former police car, any US auction listing, and the title and odometer data in the NMVTIS report. A US car reads in miles. Mopar Middle East’s warranty terms say tampering with the odometer voids the warranty.
VINCheckr adds European mileage readings where available, from registers and sales listings; few US or UAE cars have any, so “no readings found” means no data, not a confirmed odometer.
VINCheckr’s recall section lists NHTSA’s US recalls for the Charger and its model year, not Gulf campaigns or whether a recall is still open on that VIN; on a Gulf car, take that list to Trading Enterprises as questions. NHTSA files police recall 16V-739 separately, under CHARGER POLICE, so on a former police car also run NHTSA’s VIN recall search.
Checking a Dodge Charger LD?
Enter the VIN to check available accident, auction and recall records, plus European mileage readings where available.
Where to find the VIN on a Dodge Charger LD
Dodge’s US manuals put the VIN at the left front of the instrument panel, under the windscreen; its 2012, 2014 and 2015 manuals and 2019 high-performance manual add the right front strut tower, and US-market cars carry it on the driver’s-door label. All must match the registration card.
Dodge Charger LD inspection checklist
- Put the full VIN into NHTSA’s decoder and note the trim, engine and drive; a “Police” trim means a former police car.
- Ask Trading Enterprises whether the VIN was built for the Middle East, then match it with the import papers, registration card, dashboard VIN plate and driver’s-side label.
- On a US import, check title brands and every auction listing, with photos.
- Run NHTSA’s recall search and Dodge’s UAE recall check, and collect proof of alternator, airbag and gear selector repairs; skip the test drive if a 2011–2015 car’s passenger inflator recall is still open.
- With the ignition on, check that the airbag warning light goes out after its self-check.
- Press each door trim panel and inspect the touchscreen edges with the screen off, then on.
- Drive for 30 minutes with the air conditioning on, watching for a battery light, a “battery saver” message or heavy steering.
- Have a mechanic read stored codes, test the charging voltage and look under the car for repairs, flood signs and oil leaks.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Dodge Charger LD include the 2010 and 2024 Chargers?
No: the Dodge Charger LD covers the 2011 to 2023 model years. Chrysler launched the seventh-generation Charger for 2011, Dodge ended it in its current form at the end of 2023, and the next Charger was revealed in March 2024. Check the model year on the registration card.
How do I know whether a Dodge Charger LD was built for the Gulf or the US?
Ask Trading Enterprises, Dodge’s UAE dealer, whether the VIN belongs to a car built for the Middle East; the VIN alone will not show it, because LD VINs begin with 2, a North American manufacturer code, whatever the market. Then compare the import papers, and on a US import check title brands and auction listings.
Is a former police Dodge Charger LD worth buying?
It can be, if its records hold up: police versions have their own recalls, such as 16V-739 for the 220-amp alternator and 18V-281 for the front driveshaft of all-wheel-drive V8 pursuit cars. Decode the VIN with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and ask for fleet service records and proof of those repairs.
Have the alternator and curtain airbag recalls been done on this Dodge Charger LD?
The VIN will tell you: start with the alternator recalls on 2011–2014 cars (14V-634, 17V-435, 17V-741), the side airbag recall on 2011–2014 cars (15V-467) and the curtain airbag recall on 2018–2021 cars (24V-198). Search the VIN with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a US car, or on Dodge’s UAE recall page for a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market car.
Will Dodge’s Middle East warranty cover a US-import Dodge Charger LD?
No: the warranty terms Mopar Middle East currently publishes cover only a car built for sale in the Middle East, registered and driven mainly there, and nothing at all on a car declared a total loss or titled salvage or rebuilt. Ask Trading Enterprises, with the VIN, what cover remains.
VINCheckr data
VINCheckr’s figures below count manufacturer codes; they do not show how many cars were imported from the US.
- VINs checked on VINCheckr
- 328
- VIN starts with 1–5 (North American manufacturer code)
- 100%
- US auction history found
- at least 21%
- UAE accident records found
- at least 22%
How these figures are calculated (2026-03-13 to 2026-10-15)
- Aggregated, anonymised VINCheckr checks. Repeat checks of one VIN count once (latest check); reused reports are excluded.
- Model figures count only checks whose make, model and model year map to that generation, leaving out VIN prefixes that mark another model or generation; the all-vehicle figures count every check with a decoded make.
- A VIN starting with 1–5 carries a North American manufacturer code. Such cars are usually, but not always, built in North America (NHTSA interpretation letter NCC-240821-001, 2024), and the code does not show where the car was first sold or registered.
- Auction share: checks with at least one listing on bid.cars, plc.auction or carsbidshistory.com. Listings on bid.cars and plc.auction were not searched from 15 May to 7 October 2026, so the true share is likely higher.
- Accident share: checks with at least one UAE police accident record (Ministry of Interior or Abu Dhabi Police); checks where the MOI lookup timed out or did not complete are excluded. A minimum, not an exact rate.
- Figures are shown only for groups of at least 100 unique VINs.
