Buying a used Nissan Patrol Y62 (2010–2024) in the UAE
Quick answer
The Nissan Patrol Y62 is the Patrol that Nissan unveiled in Abu Dhabi in 2010 and replaced in the UAE from late 2024, with a 5.6-litre V8 or a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. Nissan developed it with the Middle East in mind, so the history that matters most is local. Ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the service record and for any UAE recall campaign on the car; the UAE press reported recalls of 2010 and 2011–2012 Patrols, without naming the generation. The US Nissan Armada shares the Y62 code, but a US recall does not cover a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market Patrol. Check the UAE accident record, look underneath for off-road damage, shift the four-wheel drive into low range only with the car stopped in neutral, and match the VIN on the chassis, the registration card and any dashboard plate.

The Nissan Patrol Y62 in the UAE
Nissan unveiled the Nissan Patrol Y62 in Abu Dhabi in February 2010, and Gulf News reported that it would go on sale across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries from April. Nissan’s launch release says the design followed market research “especially in the Middle East”, where prototypes were tested. Nissan unveiled an updated 2020 Patrol in Abu Dhabi on 24 September 2019. It unveiled the next Patrol in Abu Dhabi in September 2024, and Gulf News reported deliveries from November, so the Y62 was replaced in the UAE from late 2024.
Nissan cars in the UAE are sold and recalled through its agents: Gulf News names Arabian Automobiles for Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates and Al Masaood Automobiles for Abu Dhabi, and the UAE Ministry of Economy’s recall notices name the agent.
What to check first on a used Patrol Y62
- The service record: ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the service history. Nissan’s general-market manual says a car that tows should be serviced more often than the maintenance booklet’s intervals, and that driving off-road through sand, mud or water as deep as the wheel hub may call for more frequent maintenance.
- UAE recall campaigns: ask the agent which campaigns applied to the VIN and whether the work was done. The UAE Ministry of Economy (now the Ministry of Economy and Tourism) oversees recalls together with manufacturers and their UAE agents.
- The accident record: the Ministry of Interior (MOI) and Abu Dhabi Police both list a public accident inquiry by chassis number.
- The underside: look at the chassis frame, suspension and underbody for scrapes, bends and leaks from desert or rock driving.
- The four-wheel drive (4WD): shift into and out of 4L only with the car stopped in neutral, and have a Nissan dealer check a 4WD warning light that stays on or blinks.
- Modifications: Nissan says the vehicle should not be modified and that damage from modifications may not be covered by its warranties.
Common Nissan Patrol Y62 problems by system
This section draws on Nissan’s general-market Patrol owner’s manual, which includes a technical table for Gulf Standard models and notes for the Middle East, and on the US records of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform), model years 2017–2024, retrieved on 14 October 2026. An NHTSA complaint is a US owner’s report, not a confirmed defect.
Engine and fuel system
Nissan’s general-market Patrol manual lists three petrol engines, each with a timing chain: the 5.6-litre V8 in VK56DE and VK56VD form and the 4.0-litre VQ40DE V6. Ask what oil the car has been given.
For the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform), NHTSA recall 21V-373 covers 2020–2021 Armadas with V8 engines: the fuel pump impeller can swell and bind, the pump can fail and the engine can stall, and US dealers replace the pump module. No source we found says whether GCC-market Patrols share the affected pump, so ask the agent. US owners filed 47 engine complaints with NHTSA for 2017–2024 Armadas, 41 of them for 2017–2019 (owner reports).
Automatic transmission and four-wheel drive
Nissan’s 2010 launch release introduced the Nissan Patrol Y62 with a new seven-speed automatic transmission; the general-market manual covers both five-speed and seven-speed automatic models. For the seven-speed it says to use only Genuine NISSAN Matic S fluid, not mixed with other fluids, because other fluids may damage the transmission and that damage is not covered by the warranty. Ask for the fluid record.
Nissan’s launch release describes the All-Mode 4x4 system, with sand, on-road, snow and rock modes. In the manual, the 4WD shift switch has three positions, AUTO, 4H and 4L, and the car must be stationary in neutral to shift into or out of 4L; Nissan warns that selecting a gear while the 4LO or 4HI indicator is still blinking may let the car move unexpectedly. The manual says not to drive in 4H or 4L on dry, hard roads, and to use the rear differential lock, where fitted, only in an emergency, when 4L cannot free a stuck car. The 4WD warning light blinks rapidly when the transfer case oil is abnormally hot and slowly when the front and rear wheels differ too much in diameter, and the manual warns that the transfer case may be damaged if you keep driving with the light blinking.
For the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform), NHTSA lists no transmission recall for 2017–2024. Its power-train category holds 32 complaints for those years, 17 of them for 2017; owners report early or incorrect shifts and hesitation.
Hydraulic Body Motion Control suspension, wheels and tyres
Nissan’s 2010 launch release calls Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) a world first for Nissan that keeps the car flatter, with less body roll, and says the Y62 replaced the earlier rigid axles with four-wheel independent suspension. Nissan’s release for the 2020 Patrol says HBMC is available on V8 models. No Nissan source we found gives HBMC service intervals or checks, so ask the agent whether the car has HBMC and what its record shows, and have an independent mechanic look for leaks and damage around the suspension.
Nissan’s general-market manual says never to use a tyre more than six years old, used or not, so read the date codes; larger aftermarket wheels or tyres are a modification that the manual says may not be covered by Nissan’s warranties. On the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform), NHTSA recall 26V-455 covers Armadas from the 2020 model year with 22-inch wheels, including 2020–2024 Y62 cars, because the axle weight rating on the certification label is wrong and could let the car be overloaded; when we read NHTSA’s record on 14 October 2026, owners had been sent interim letters and the final remedy was still to come.
Heat, cooling and towing
Nissan’s general-market manual warns never to keep driving a car that overheats, because doing so could cause engine damage or a fire, and to check the engine coolant temperature indicator while towing. On a test drive, idle with the air conditioning on until the fan cycles, and watch the temperature gauge.
Towing puts additional loads on the engine, drivetrain, steering and brakes, Nissan’s manual says, and vehicle damage resulting from towing a trailer is not covered by the warranties. The only maximum trailer loads in that manual are marked “for Australia” (3,500 kg with trailer brakes, 750 kg without), and no official source we found gives the figure for GCC-market cars; ask Nissan’s UAE agent, and look for a tow bar, worn hitch wiring or a sagging rear on a car the seller says never towed.
Electrics, starting and driver assistance
Electrical faults are the largest complaint category for the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform): 135 NHTSA complaints for 2017–2024, 116 of them for 2017–2019. In the descriptions, US owners report batteries draining, the car failing to start, a “BCI malfunction” warning (Nissan’s general-market Patrol manual uses BCI for the Intelligent Back-up Intervention system) and faulty brake-pedal or brake-light switches. NHTSA lists no recall for these owner reports. Recall 19V-654 covered 2018–2019 Armadas whose reversing-camera settings could hide the image. On any Y62, start the car several times, check that no warning lights stay on, and test the cameras and parking sensors.
Nissan Patrol Y62 problems by model year
The UAE press has reported recalls of 2010 Patrols (an engine control module circuit; The National and Gulf News, July 2010) and 2011–2012 Patrols (a fuel pressure sensor; Gulf News, February 2012). None of these reports says which generation, and no official source we found lists the UAE campaigns for the Y62: when we read them on 14 October 2026, the UAE Ministry of Economy’s Nissan recall pages listed no Patrol notice. Other campaigns named the Patrol Y61 (passenger airbags, Gulf News, November 2018) and the Y63 (2025), so check which generation a campaign names. Ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the car’s recall record: which campaigns applied and whether the work was done.
The table covers the US Nissan Armada (same Y62 platform) only, from NHTSA records retrieved on 14 October 2026; it says nothing about recalls on a GCC-market Patrol. Nissan’s Armada manuals for the 2017 to 2024 model years carry the Y62 code, so the table covers those years. How severity is rated: High means an NHTSA recall lists that model year. Medium means no recall for the issue, but a named NHTSA complaint category (not “unknown or other”) holds 20 or more complaints for that year. Low means neither.

GCC-market Patrol vs an imported US Armada
For a Gulf-market Nissan Patrol Y62, UAE recalls run through the agents: the UAE Ministry of Economy says recalls are overseen by its Competition and Consumer Protection Department with manufacturers and their UAE agents, and its notices name the agent and its contact details. A Nissan Armada brought from the US is documented differently. NHTSA’s VIN search shows unrepaired US recalls, though NHTSA says it will not show a recall involving an international vehicle. Nissan North America’s 2022 warranty booklet does not apply once a car is relocated outside the US, its territories and Canada.

How to check a Nissan Patrol Y62’s accident history
The e-services sites of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) and Abu Dhabi Police both list, among their public services, an accident inquiry by chassis number. VINCheckr searches the UAE accident records available to it, from MOI and, during periods when MOI cannot be reached, Abu Dhabi Police; a clean result means no accident was found in those records, not that the car was never damaged.
Underbody damage from desert and rock driving is easy to miss, so have the car inspected on a lift. Nissan’s manual says to free a stuck car only with the towing hook, pulled straight out, because a pulling device attached anywhere else may damage the body. Look for bent recovery points, scraped frame rails and dented underbody panels. For an Armada brought from the US, VINCheckr searches bid.cars, plc.auction and carsbidshistory.com and links to any listing it finds, with photos where the listing has them. A listing shows the car was offered at a US auction at least once; its title and damage fields show whether it was sold as salvage.
How to check the mileage
No public UAE source we found offers a single odometer history for a car, so compare every reading you can find; dated service records from Nissan’s UAE agent are the strongest evidence for a Gulf-market Patrol. On an Armada brought from the US, the odometer and its US paperwork may read in miles, so convert before comparing, and check the title and odometer data in a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) report, sold by the approved providers listed on vehiclehistory.gov for up to about $4, the US Department of Justice says.
VINCheckr adds European mileage readings where available, from registers and sales listings; they are rare for cars that have spent their life in the Gulf, so treat “no readings found” as no data rather than proof of a correct odometer.
VINCheckr’s recall section lists NHTSA’s US recalls by make, model and year, and NHTSA lists no Nissan Patrol, so for a GCC-market Patrol Y62 it will usually show nothing; the US recalls in the Armada table above do not cover a Gulf car. Ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the campaign record.

Where to find the VIN on a Nissan Patrol Y62
Nissan’s general-market Patrol manual shows the VIN stamped on the chassis frame under the car, below the front door, and marks a dashboard VIN plate and a driver’s-side centre-pillar label “if equipped”. Compare every VIN you find with the registration card; a mismatch is a reason to stop.
Nissan Patrol Y62 inspection checklist
- Match the VIN on the chassis-frame stamping, the dashboard plate and pillar label where fitted, and the registration card.
- Ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the service history and for every recall campaign that applied to the car.
- Check the UAE accident record by chassis number.
- Start the engine from cold, check that no warning lights stay on, and repeat the start several times.
- With the car stopped, the brake held and the gear lever in N (Neutral), select 4L and back to AUTO, waiting each time for the indicator to stop blinking before choosing a gear; drive in AUTO, and check that the 4WD warning light stays off.
- Drive for at least 30 minutes, including a motorway run, and note any early or late shifts.
- Idle with the air conditioning on until the fan cycles, and watch the temperature gauge.
- On a lift, look at the frame rails, recovery points, underbody and suspension for bends, scrapes and leaks.
- Read the tyre date codes and note any non-standard wheels, tyres, lift kit or tow bar.
- Have an independent mechanic inspect the car before you pay; Nissan warns never to test a four-wheel drive car on a two-wheel dynamometer.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy the V6 or the V8 Nissan Patrol Y62?
The engine changes what to check on a Nissan Patrol Y62 rather than which is the safer buy. Nissan’s table for Gulf Standard models gives the 5.6-litre VK56VD V8 298 kW and 560 Nm and the 4.0-litre VQ40DE V6 205 kW and 394 Nm, and Nissan’s release for the 2020 Patrol says Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) is available on V8 models. On the US Nissan Armada, which shares the Y62 code, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) fuel pump recall 21V-373 covers V8 cars only. On a V8, ask whether the car has HBMC and have the suspension checked for leaks; on either engine, ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the service record.
Do US Nissan Armada recalls apply to a GCC-market Nissan Patrol Y62?
No. A recall by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) covers the US vehicles it names, such as the 2017–2024 Nissan Armada, which shares the Y62 code; it does not cover a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market Patrol, and NHTSA’s VIN search does not show recalls involving international vehicles. Ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, which campaigns apply.
Which UAE recalls have covered the Nissan Patrol?
The UAE press reported recalls of 2010 Patrols (an engine control module circuit) and 2011–2012 Patrols (a fuel pressure sensor), without saying which generation; other campaigns named the Patrol Y61 and the Y63. No official source we found lists the UAE campaigns for the Y62, so ask Nissan’s UAE agent, with the VIN, for the car’s recall record.
Which Nissan Patrol Y62 models have Hydraulic Body Motion Control?
Nissan’s release for the 2020 Patrol says Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) is available on V8 models; Nissan introduced it on the Patrol Y62 in 2010 to reduce body roll. No Nissan source we found lists HBMC by trim and year, so ask the seller and Nissan’s UAE agent whether the car has it, and have the suspension checked for leaks.
What oil and transmission fluid does the Nissan Patrol Y62 use?
For the 5.6-litre VK56VD V8 in the Middle East, Nissan’s general-market manual recommends Genuine NISSAN Motor Oil Ester 5W-30 SN; 5W-30 is also preferred for the 4.0-litre V6. The seven-speed automatic must use only Genuine NISSAN Matic S fluid. Ask for service records showing both.
VINCheckr data
VINCheckr’s figures below count manufacturer codes; they do not show how many cars were imported from the US.
- VINs checked on VINCheckr
- 302
- VIN starts with 1–5 (North American manufacturer code)
- 0%
- US auction history found
- None found in these checks
- UAE accident records found
- at least 61%
How these figures are calculated (2026-03-13 to 2026-10-15)
- Aggregated, anonymised VINCheckr checks. Repeat checks of one VIN count once (latest check); reused reports are excluded.
- Model figures count only checks whose make, model and model year map to that generation, leaving out VIN prefixes that mark another model or generation; the all-vehicle figures count every check with a decoded make.
- A VIN starting with 1–5 carries a North American manufacturer code. Such cars are usually, but not always, built in North America (NHTSA interpretation letter NCC-240821-001, 2024), and the code does not show where the car was first sold or registered.
- Auction share: checks with at least one listing on bid.cars, plc.auction or carsbidshistory.com. Listings on bid.cars and plc.auction were not searched from 15 May to 7 October 2026, so the true share is likely higher.
- Accident share: checks with at least one UAE police accident record (Ministry of Interior or Abu Dhabi Police); checks where the MOI lookup timed out or did not complete are excluded. A minimum, not an exact rate.
- Figures are shown only for groups of at least 100 unique VINs.
