Buying a used Dodge Challenger LC and LA (2008–2023) in the UAE
Quick answer
This guide covers the Dodge Challenger coupe of the 2008 to 2023 model years, assembled at Brampton, Ontario, with a 3.5- or 3.6-litre V6 or a 5.7-, 6.1-, 6.4- or supercharged 6.2-litre V8; Chrysler codes the 2008–2014 car LC and the 2015–2023 car LA. Trading Enterprises sold it new in the UAE, but a used one may be a US import, so read the papers first: a US title brand or auction listing changes the price, and Mopar Middle East’s current warranty terms exclude cars built for other markets and any declared total loss. On a 2008–2014 car, check the airbag inflator and alternator recalls by VIN with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or with Trading Enterprises for a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market car. Ask about a manual gearbox, and on a 2023 car a cracked windscreen, before you agree a price.

The Dodge Challenger LC and LA in the UAE
Dodge revealed the 2008 Challenger SRT8 on 5 February 2008 as a two-door, rear-wheel-drive coupe on the Charger’s platform, assembled at Chrysler’s Brampton, Ontario plant, and added the SE and R/T for 2009. On 26 September 2022 Dodge said the Challenger in its current form would end at the end of 2023. Chrysler’s recall and service documents code the car up to the 2014 model year as the LC (the decoder of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, does so up to 2012) and the 2015–2023 car as the “(LA) Dodge Challenger”. This guide covers both.
On Dodge’s UAE website, Trading Enterprises of the Al-Futtaim group calls itself the official dealer for Dodge in the UAE.
What to check first on a used Challenger LC or LA
- The market it was built for: give Trading Enterprises the VIN and ask.
- Title brands and every auction listing, if the car came from the US.
- Airbag inflator recalls on 2008–2014 cars and alternator recalls on 2011–2014 cars.
- Stalling when slowing for a corner, on 2009–2010 cars (owner reports).
- Stored misfire codes and a ticking or rough engine at idle.
- Clean gear changes with the clutch pressed to the floor, on a six-speed manual.
- A windscreen without cracks running in from the pillars, on 2023 cars (owner reports).
Gulf car or US import: what changes for a Challenger
Mopar Middle East publishes undated warranty terms issued by Stellantis International Operations; they are today’s terms, not necessarily the ones an older Challenger was sold under. They give basic cover of 36 months or 60,000 km only to a car built for sale in the Middle East and registered and driven mainly there, none once it is sold or registered outside the region, and no warranty of any kind to a car declared a total loss by an insurer, rebuilt after one, or titled “salvage”, “junk”, “rebuilt” or “scrap”.
Dodge’s US releases offer a six-speed manual with the V8 engines from 2009. Trading Enterprises’ 2020 Challenger page listed a TREMEC six-speed manual for the R/T, though its specification line read “AUTOMATIC 6 SPEED”, and its 2021 pages describe only the eight-speed automatic. No official source we found settles whether manual Challengers were sold new in the Gulf, so ask Trading Enterprises about the VIN before treating a manual car as a Gulf car.
The VIN does not answer it either. Every Challenger VIN in NHTSA’s complaint records that its decoder can read starts 2B3 (model years 2008–2011) or 2C3 (2012–2023), a North American manufacturer code, and NHTSA says such a code need not show where a car was built; nor does it show where the car was first sold.
Gulf cars have been recalled too: the Qatar Tribune reported on 4 June 2018 that Qatar’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce, with the Dodge dealer United Cars Almana, recalled 2011–2014 Challengers over a generator defect that may stop the engine. We found no UAE ministry recall page naming the Challenger. NHTSA’s VIN recall search covers US-market cars and Dodge’s UAE website has its own VIN recall check, so on an import run both.
Gulf spec vs US spec: what actually differs
Spotting a rebuilt or flooded Challenger
For a car from the US, check its title brands in a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) report, sold by the approved providers listed on vehiclehistory.gov for up to about $4, the US Department of Justice says (a search can miss records), and any auction listing’s damage fields and photos. Dodge’s 2023 manual says the airbag warning light goes out after a self-check of about four to eight seconds and that a deployed airbag or seat belt pretensioner must be replaced immediately.
Collision bulletin 31-001-23, issued on 3 February 2023 by FCA US, the Fiat Chrysler company behind Dodge, lists 2013–2014 (LC) and 2015–2023 (LA) Challengers and describes corrosion or bubbling on aluminium panels along the leading edge of the bonnet and on hinges, doors or wings; dealers sand and refinish the panel, or replace it if the pitting is deep. Ask whether that work was done before blaming a crash.
NHTSA lists mud, waterlines and unusual rust among flood signs.
Salvage and rebuilt titles: what they mean for a UAE buyer
Common Dodge Challenger LC and LA problems by system
Counts are from NHTSA, 15 October 2026. NHTSA files 2008–2023 Challengers under a dozen model names, and every complaint under the others is also filed under “CHALLENGER”, which holds 1,693. We sorted them by the partial VIN owners give: 13 that NHTSA’s decoder reads as another car (ten Dodge Chargers and three vehicles of other makes) are left out, leaving 1,680, of which 131 carry no VIN. Each complaint is a US owner’s report, not a confirmed defect.
Airbags (2008–2015)
Recall 15V-444 covers 2008–2010 Challengers built from 19 September 2007 to 29 October 2010, whose dual-stage driver airbag inflator may take in moisture and, over time, rupture. The passenger inflator recalls 16V-352 (2008–2012) and 18V-021 (2009–2013) are set by the US state where a car was sold or registered, and NHTSA also lists 19V-018 for 2010–2014. NHTSA’s records for 15V-444, 16V-352, 18V-021 and 19V-018 tell owners not to drive the car until the repair is done. Others cover the seat side-airbag wiring of 2011–2012 cars (13V-118) and a loose curtain-airbag bolt on cars built from 28 March to 1 April 2015 (15V-282).
Many of the 115 airbag complaints for 2009–2010 cars are from owners waiting for recall parts (owner reports). For a Gulf car, ask Trading Enterprises, with the VIN, which inflator campaigns applied.
Charging and starter-cable recalls (2011–2014)
The 2011–2014 Challenger shares the Charger’s alternator recalls: 14V-634 replaces the 160-amp alternator of 3.6-litre cars, 17V-435 inspects the 160-amp alternator of 5.7-litre cars with electro-hydraulic power steering, and 17V-741 adds more 2014 V6 cars. NHTSA’s electrical category holds 402 complaints for 2011–2014 Challengers, 130 of which mention the alternator (owner reports). Recall 13V-103 replaced the starter cable of V6 cars built from 3 December 2012 to 24 January 2013, which could short and cause a fire; NHTSA’s record told owners not to drive it or park it near buildings until repaired.
Stalling, misfires and engine noise
Owners of 2009–2010 cars filed 87 complaints that mention stalling, most of them from 2010 to 2013 and 27 of them while turning (owner reports); we found no recall for it. Chrysler’s bulletin 09-002-14 covers 2011–2013 (LC) Challengers with the 3.6-litre V6 that log misfire codes: a leak-down test of 25% or more means a new left cylinder head, under extended warranty cover.
FCA’s dealer case S1709000010, revised on 16 January 2021 and listed by NHTSA for 2009–2016 Challengers, traces abnormal engine noise, a rough idle or misfires to worn camshaft lobes and lifters, and calls for a new engine if metal debris turns up in the oil control valve screens.
Gearboxes and Park
Recall 08V-458 reprogrammed 2008–2009 automatics with “Keyless Go”, whose engine could be switched off outside Park; 17V-431 updated 2017 5.7-litre eight-speed cars that might not stay in Park with the engine running; and 18V-280 fitted the correct park lock rod to some 2018 cars. On a six-speed manual, Dodge’s 2023 manual warns that not pressing the clutch fully makes shifting harder and may damage the clutch and gearbox, and a few owners of 2009–2010 manual cars, in complaints filed from 2010 to 2022, report gears that are hard to select (owner reports).
Touchscreens and windscreens (2015–2023)
About 25 complaints for 2017–2018 cars describe a touchscreen that bubbles or presses itself (owner reports). FCA’s May 2021 dealer note, which NHTSA lists for 2017–2021 Challengers, says only bubbling of the screen itself, not of a screen protector, justifies a new radio. Recall 18V-332 updated the cruise control of 2015–2018 cars, which might not switch off.
Recall 21V-516 covers 2020–2021 cars whose windscreen may not have been bonded properly. Separately, 19 complaints for 2023 cars, filed from September 2024, describe the windscreen cracking, most of them from a pillar edge with no impact mark and several while parked (owner reports). We found no recall or bulletin for it on 2023 cars.
Dodge Challenger LC and LA problems by model year
Each recall is placed in the complaint category NHTSA files its component under; High means an NHTSA recall in that category lists the model year, and the cell shows that category’s complaints for the year. Medium means no recall in the category, but a named category (not “unknown or other”) holds 20 or more complaints that year. Two recalls are left out of the table: a fire-extinguisher accessory recall (17V-824) and a recall of Mopar performance engine-computer kits (18E-053), both add-on equipment rather than the car.

How to check a Dodge Challenger LC or LA’s accident history
Accidents in the UAE: the Ministry of Interior (MOI) and Abu Dhabi Police each list a public accident inquiry by chassis number among their e-services. VINCheckr searches the UAE accident records available to it, from MOI and, during periods when MOI cannot be reached, Abu Dhabi Police. A clean result means none was found in those records.
Damage before export: VINCheckr searches bid.cars, plc.auction and carsbidshistory.com and links to any listing it finds, with photos where the listing has them. A listing shows the Challenger was offered at a US auction at least once, and its title and damage fields show whether it was sold as salvage.
How to check a Challenger’s mileage
We found no public UAE source of past odometer readings, so collect dated papers: service invoices, any US auction listing, and the title and odometer data in the NMVTIS report. A US-market Challenger reads in miles.
VINCheckr adds European mileage readings where available, from registers and sales listings. Few cars from the US or the Gulf have any, so an empty result tells you nothing about the odometer.
VINCheckr’s recall section lists the US recalls NHTSA records for a Challenger of that model year; it does not show Gulf campaigns or whether a repair is still outstanding on this VIN. For a Gulf car, take the list to Trading Enterprises and ask which campaigns were done.
Checking a Dodge Challenger LC and LA?
Enter the VIN to check available accident, auction and recall records, plus European mileage readings where available.
Where to find the VIN on a Dodge Challenger LC or LA
Dodge’s manuals put the VIN on the left front corner of the instrument panel, read through the windscreen; those we read for 2011–2016 add the right front strut tower, and US-market cars repeat it on the driver’s-side certification label. All should match the registration card.
Dodge Challenger LC and LA inspection checklist
- Decode the full VIN with NHTSA’s free decoder and compare the engine, drive and model year with the registration card.
- Give Trading Enterprises the VIN: was the car built for the Middle East, and which campaigns were carried out?
- On a car from the US, look up title brands and read every auction listing, photos included.
- Run NHTSA’s recall search and Dodge’s UAE recall check, and ask for proof of airbag inflator and alternator work; if an inflator or starter-cable recall is still open, do not test-drive the car, and an open starter-cable recall also means parking it away from buildings.
- With the ignition on, watch the airbag warning light finish its self-check and go out.
- Start the engine from cold and listen at idle for ticking or misfiring.
- On a manual, press the clutch to the floor and select every gear while stationary; on an automatic, confirm the car holds in Park.
- Look along each windscreen pillar for cracks and along the bonnet edge for paint bubbles.
- Have a mechanic read stored codes, test the charging and look underneath for repairs, leaks and flood marks.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 2015–2023 Dodge Challenger a different car from a 2008–2014 one?
Dodge treats it as a new generation: its 2015 launch material calls the 2008–2014 car the previous generation, Chrysler’s documents code the two LC and LA, and the 2015 car brought a new interior, the eight-speed automatic and the supercharged Hellcat. Both are covered here; check the model year on the registration card before reading any recall list.
Was the manual-gearbox Dodge Challenger sold new in the UAE?
Trading Enterprises’ 2020 Challenger page listed a six-speed manual for the R/T but gave its transmission as automatic, and its 2021 pages describe only the eight-speed automatic. Ask Trading Enterprises, the UAE dealer, whether the VIN belongs to a car built for the Middle East, and check the import papers.
Which airbag recalls apply to a 2008–2014 Dodge Challenger?
Up to five, depending on year, build date and US state: 15V-444 for the driver inflator on 2008–2010 cars, 16V-352, 18V-021 and 19V-018 for passenger inflators, and 13V-118 for seat side-airbag wiring on 2011–2012 cars. Search the VIN with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a US car, or on Dodge’s UAE recall page for a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market car.
Do 2023 Dodge Challenger windscreens crack on their own?
Some owners say so: 19 complaints to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) describe 2023 windscreens cracking, most from a pillar edge without an impact, but we found no recall or bulletin for it. Inspect both pillars closely and ask the seller whether the windscreen has been replaced.
How can I tell whether a Dodge Challenger was sold at a US salvage auction?
Look for two things: a salvage or rebuilt brand in a National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) report, sold by the approved providers listed on vehiclehistory.gov for up to about $4, the US Department of Justice says, and an auction listing whose title and damage fields say so. VINCheckr searches bid.cars, plc.auction and carsbidshistory.com and links to any listing it finds; read its photos before you agree a price.
VINCheckr data
VINCheckr’s figures below count manufacturer codes; they do not show how many cars were imported from the US.
- VINs checked on VINCheckr
- 220
- VIN starts with 1–5 (North American manufacturer code)
- 100%
- US auction history found
- at least 21%
- UAE accident records found
- at least 26%
How these figures are calculated (2026-03-13 to 2026-10-15)
- Aggregated, anonymised VINCheckr checks. Repeat checks of one VIN count once (latest check); reused reports are excluded.
- Model figures count only checks whose make, model and model year map to that generation, leaving out VIN prefixes that mark another model or generation; the all-vehicle figures count every check with a decoded make.
- A VIN starting with 1–5 carries a North American manufacturer code. Such cars are usually, but not always, built in North America (NHTSA interpretation letter NCC-240821-001, 2024), and the code does not show where the car was first sold or registered.
- Auction share: checks with at least one listing on bid.cars, plc.auction or carsbidshistory.com. Listings on bid.cars and plc.auction were not searched from 15 May to 7 October 2026, so the true share is likely higher.
- Accident share: checks with at least one UAE police accident record (Ministry of Interior or Abu Dhabi Police); checks where the MOI lookup timed out or did not complete are excluded. A minimum, not an exact rate.
- Figures are shown only for groups of at least 100 unique VINs.
